Really, learning how to build computers from the ground up, piece by piece is useless rubbish? Understanding how DAWs actually impact performance on computers is rubbish? Advancing our understanding of computer architectures and platforms is Rubbish?
I’m not sure I could disagree with you any more than I do.
Anyway, clearly a lot of egos trying to max it out like your CPU’s!!!..and failing.
Ego? If being interested in something enough to pursue it to n’th degree makes me egotistical, then sign me up.
Do any of you actually use Cubase??? If so, why on earth do you need to overclock a massively powerful PC in the first place. A nicely set-up 2600 or 2600K system will give your far too many VSTi track and audio tracks that you could use, unless you have some horrendous FX VSTs on the go too.
If you actually read some of the posts, you would clearly see that we don’t think overclocking is essential. In fact most of the time the recommendation is a cohesive set of hardware that works well together. However, discovering how much of an improvement having the OS and Samples on an SSD was a huge eye opener. How else can you discover these things if you don’t try it. Oh yeah, you can sit on the sidelines and criticize, that is an option.
Give us some details - why do you need to overclock a 2600 CPU???
How many extra track counts do you get from a standard 2600??? FACTS PLEASE - NOT CHILDISH DRIVVLE.
What is childish about overclocking? Do you associate it with gaming? Not to mention that people do use computers for more than Cubase. Shocker! And, Cubase/Wavelab kicks ass on my setup.
Let me give you an example, although I already posted these numbers in a different thread. 980x (6/12 cores)runs stock at 3.33. I’m running at 4.5. And as the simple math would suggest, and I can confirm from testing, I get greater than %20 increase on plug count. It’s actually close to %25, but it isn’t consistent enough to make the claim. If in addition, I track to SSD, I get pretty close to %100 increase in track count compared to 10k rpm HDs.
So, even though some of the conversations about system specs got a little sideways, you should be thanking the combatants, not insulting them. If you can’t learn something from the conversation, quit reading it.
