Dead Notes

Hey,

Just checking… are dead notes still not a feature in Dorico 5? I can see this has been requested for over four years now…

It’s a property… Select the notes, check out the properties panel (bottom), you might need to scroll to the right!

Cheers! So every time we need to add a dead-note we need to highlight every night > properties > dead-note? If thats true… really it’s a bandaid fix thats disruptive to creative workflow. Why not just add a dead note notation so we can add them on the fly? Hmmm.

Also doesnt support playback… just plays the same sound as the note you selected.

FWIW I suppose you could create a macro, or use a Streamdeck, if a keycommand is not available (I am not in front of my computer, 2:41AM here…)
Each time I have needed it, I already had input the music and made an extra pass for this. Select all notes that should be dead and enable the property.

Cheers! Ill look into the macro thing
Appreciate your help. Does dorico have a features request board? Id love to request enhancements. Its frustrating moving from one notation software to another :sob: I have a heavy workflow already engraved haha.

It’s here!

Check out the jump bar too: press J and see if anything good happens when you write dead note or ghost note. You even might be able to use a shortcut for it in the jump bar (again, not in front of the computer)

You can add the “feature-request” tag to your posting, that will mark it as a request.
