There are so many utility track types and they’re all in ‘Other’. Is there a reason for this?
I’d like to for example, have my marker tracks stand out by default, but I don’t want all the other utility tracks to take that colour.

PLE Feature Request: There is no way to select tracks based on their default colour - Cubase - Steinberg Forums
As these two feature additions will play very nice together.
Toggle palette popup via a key command, click the color, done.
IMO it makes little sense to over-complicate track color settings/preferences especially as once you get into large sessions you’re usually coloring by logical groups rather than track type. i.e. iit makes little sense to have all audio tracks colored the same as usually you’re coloring by what they represent.
If you’re using the same color types per session then you have some consistency and can save that as a general template/track archive/track preset.
If you need some advice on session layout and organization just ask.
Just to be clear, I’m talking about this area of preferences:
I’m in the process of revising colours/UI
All my colours are already organized for every possible thing in the colour palette and have a massive template all organized, pre-routings, etc. Default Colours have their distinct colours from what is in the palette so I can easily identified what has been added separate from a.) what was already in the template, and b.) what has already been organized/recoloured.
I colour my marker tracks for example pure white, I don’t like having to do that every time I add a marker track.
All the utlity tracks have very distinct colours I would not use for audio/MIDI tracks, White, near black, grey, etc
So another example again, would be now that we can add ruler tracks. Me templated ruler tracks are already custom coloured, but more can be added now - so, do I really want to have to bother colouring an added ruler track in the middle of a session, or do I just want it added and coloured accordingly without having to deal with it?
I think it’s a reasonable feature request.
Very organized over here, layout is impeccable and all PLE programmed.
That is the preferences window I assumed you were talking about and again, IMO it makes little sense to over-complicate that for little gain. It takes almost zero time at all to color a track and again, in my experience things tend to get colored by logical grouping rather than all tracks of ‘X’ type having the same color.
Plenty of other areas of the software which lag behind the competition which would have a big impact on workflow.
I work with marker tracks a lot, so it adds up.
Same with ruler now.
It’s probably pretty simple for them to expand this.
Steinberg tend to not want to expand the preferences if they can help it so it might not be as simple as it appears on the “outside”.
What might be more beneficial is being able to save ‘other’ track types as track presets instead. That way you could set up any track type you want, color it however you want, and simply insert via track preset. That would offer more expanded functionality which would benefit a broader variety of use-cases.
For what it’s worth it took maybe 0.5 seconds to insert a ruler and have it colored (as a quick test). Pop-up palette and key commands. If there are too many KC to remember and you have a tablet then take a look at EuControl - you can customize things to trigger whatever you need via on-screen buttons.
tbh, that sounds even more complicated.. Track Presets for Marker Tracks? imo doesn’t really make sense.
They already JUST expanded this section for Drums tracks and previous to that, Sampler, and VCA.
The track types already exist that I’m talking about… It’s literally probably editing an XML file, backing the code out of a sub-condition/group called ‘Other’ into their own adjacent to the tracks that are already individualized.
I have key commands for the pop-up palette - *this is already what I do - I don’t want to do it anymore, I want marker tracks automatically white. That’s what I*, personally, want.
I’ve written 2000 PLE scripts that do all sorts of things with colour. I had to write custom AutoHotkey scipts to give myself more key command modifiers using the WinKey. I don’t have any left.
For the love that all is groovy, I just want to add a Marker Track and have it be white, I’m not racist, It just shows up nice and clear. I don’t want to have to shift my eye sight to a huge colour palette and select a colour every time I add a marker track, nor do I want to lose a key binding for something so simple.
You sure like to over-complicate things, I’ll give you that much! 2000 PLE scripts to do things with color sounds like a nightmare. In our team environment we have everything consistently color coded and that’s the least of our worries on a job.
Good luck with your request. I’ll counter by saying please devs, spend the time on other things which will have a bigger workflow impact.
The PLE scripts aren’t all for colour obviously.
All I will say is the time invested was worth it, I don’t see anyone editing and working faster than we are. Plus I know everything about PLE now! Using Cubase has never been simpler.
And, my feature request - IS a simplification for the user.
