Is there a way to make the vertical rest position in a single-voice stave default to zero? Although many rests do this anyhow, especially with small-value rests I often have to adjust manually in the “Notes and Rests” section of the Properties Panel.
Are you saying that you’re seeing rests that don’t appear in their normal positions?
If so, is it possible that you actually do have something in another voice that’s making the rests appear displaced? You can turn on View > Note and Rest Colors > Voice Colors to make sure.
If that’s not the issue, can you upload a cut down project that demonstrates the issue, so someone can take a look?
Thanks for the response. I’m sure I don’t have other voices present. Here’s an example of the 64th and dotted 32nd rests moving to a higher position because the notes are above the staff. I want all the rests to be in the “0” position by default, no matter where the pitches are located.
Even if I pull down the beams in Engrave mode, I don’t get the 64ths to the “0” position, and the beams are too far below the staff with stems too long.
That’s very interesting. It seems to be the default height of the stemlet that’s causing problems, not the beams. But if you force the rest to position 0, everything else gets out of its way.
I don’t think there’s a way to set that as a default, but you can select a range of music and then filter to select only rests and apply the rest position to all rests in one go.
Thanks so much. This is how I’ve been managing the situation but wondered if there was a way to set as default. Appreciate your help!
