Hello, I wanted to know if there’s any way to change the default sound assignment in Dorico for the voices. The Choir Aahs won’t work really well for me, so everytime I create a new file, I always manually change them in HaLion Sonic (Play tab) to a YAMAHA Piano.
Is there any way that I can make this default so I don’t have to change this every time I add a vocal staff to any file?
Thank you for your help.
P.D: I don’t have NotePerformer or anything like that. I’m only using the sounds that came with Dorico.
I think the easiest thing to do would be to create a score set up how you want to begin (with the choral sound changed to piano), then save it as a “template” that you always begin with.
If you regularly work with SSAATTBB scores (or similar), include them all in your template and remove what you don’t need (much faster than adding more and changing the sound of each).
There may be a way of saving an endpoint as your default, but I don’t know much about that – perhaps others can chime in with a better answer.
Regarding noteperformer, unfortunately I do need to use the Piano sound due to requirements from my client. I would just leave it as is if it depended on me.
And for the template score, yeah, I do actually keep several files for voice + instruments combinations, but specially when importing XML and switching things up I always have to go back and change the sounds.
I’ve read something about Playback Templates that might work? But I’m not that savvy I guess. Will keep on the lookout for any solution.
It is really quite simple.
Once you have assigned up your piano sounds to your choral voices (and changed their expression maps to default - because that is what a piano sound uses), just save that as an endpoint.
Janus, thank you so much for your detailed answer!
And sorry for the late answer. I’ve been experimenting with this solution.
Don’t know if I did the process correctly, but I found that when you do this, it adds that sound but only for the amount of voices that you made the Endpoint Configuration with.
So, what I resorted to do is that I made 4 Playback Templates for 1 to 4 voices, which is what the XML files usually have. It’s so much faster now to just use a Playback Template instead of having to go to each sound and changing it.
Don’t know if it’s intended to work like that or maybe I did something wrong in the process, but it works for me anyways, so thanks a lot!
