I imported a midi file and it arrived with each single line on each staff having both up and down stems. (Midi files exported from various apps can have all kinds of idiosyncracies like this.) I assume that this means that in the Dorico file there are two unison voices. So, I want to just delete one of the voices.
- How do I delete a voice? “Unused voices” in Help simply says that you can’t. Is that right?
- Trying to delete one of the voices note-by-note, in Note Input, I can press V and toggle between the voices, and select the note but the delete key then deletes that note in both voices.
Select everything, and then choose Edit > Filter > Voices and select the voice you would like to delete.
Then just that voice will be selected.
You can delete voices by removing all notes from that voice (by either moving the notes to another voice, or deleting the notes).
Then, provided the voice is truly empty, it will be automatically cleaned up and removed when you save, close, and re-open the project.
That did it, Richard. Thanks.
Hi Lillie, Thanks, but that does not tell me how to delete the notes in one voice without deleting them in the other voice since the voices are in unison throughout. I can toggle V between voices and select the note but ‘Delete’ removes the note from both voices.
Yes, apologies, I wasn’t sure on first reading what sense of “deleting a voice” you meant. I now see you were talking about removing all notes in a particular voice – in which case, filtering for that voice before deleting is the way (as already said above).
If I’m not mistaken, I think selecting one note in a voice and then pressing Shift+Ctrl/Cmd+A a couple of times should select all notes in that voice (for deletion).
