Delete bracket

How can I delete a bracket?

Go into Engrave mode, select the unwanted brackets, and press Delete.

If you are using Elements, you may be out of luck.

Go to Layout Options > Brackets and Braces and change the bracketing approach, and other options.

If that doesn’t get you all the way there, you can for example put one of these players in a group, if you only don’t want these two to be bracketed together.

There are also options for the whole project in Layout Options – if you don’t want anything bracketed, you can turn off brackets.

Also, you can edit the Melody or Solo instrument definitions and put one of them in a different instrument family; Dorico only brackets instruments in the same family by default (assuming you’re using the default Orchestral ensemble type in Layout Options > Brackets and Braces > Bracketing).

After spending over 30 minutes digging around in the controls, I have a bracket I’ve been trying to get rid of myself, but I think this MIGHT be a separate kind of problem- my bracket seems to be embedded somehow in setup mode, where, back when I set this score up, the ONLY WAY I could figure out how to get Dorico to order my score correctly (with vocal soloists at the TOP of the score instead of hiding next to their like voice types in the choir) I did this setup early in the creation of the file, like over a month ago, and now I have no memory of how I got it there, but I’m pretty sure that if I remove this grouping, Dorico will annoyingly FORCE my soloists back to hiding inside the choir, which is incorrect- but now that I’m finally finished with note entry and am trying to edit the layout for printing, this very frustrating and annoying bracket has appeared ā€œGroup 1ā€ which is messing with all the spacing, and is very annoying and unnecessary. I’ve tried all the tricks suggested, nothing will seem to get rid of this useless bracket ā€œgroup 1,ā€ but I also don’t want Dorico to spit the tenor and bass soloists back to the choir. Suggestions?

That ā€˜annoying bracket’ is called a Player Group Label, and you can toggle their visibility in Layout Options > Staves and Systems > Staff Labels > Show player group names.

Alternatively, on the bottom left in Setup mode, click and hold the fifth button. You get a variety of auto-sorting options, choose None. Then you can safely delete the group without the players getting reordered, although it might mess up the rest of the bracketing.
