Deleting Preferences, a question for the Experienced?

There is that saying, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. OK, I get that. But it occurs to me that as often as I see it mentioned here, maybe it would not be a bad idea to delete Preferences in Cubase every now and then. My thinking here is that perhaps something has slipped through the cracks and I am experiencing something that is not ‘perfect’, if you will.

Do any of you experienced users of Cubase do or recommend this?

Maybe a prefs repair or compressor like a registry repair/compression tool would be handy… Or a snap shot option of sorts to recall a good state.
It was a slight pain getting my plugins and vsti back in place after today’s deletion, but worth having my projects usable again.
