I know we have a comparison here, however it does not go into detail between Pro and Elements. For example, where do I look to find out if Write → Edit Duration → “Shorten to next note” is available in Pro or Elements?
I don’t know of a detailed comparison chart but you can look up a function in the Dorico online manual and then switch to a different Dorico edition using the drop-down lists at the top of the page. If the function is not available in that edition, it won’t be mentioned on the reloaded page or the corresponding page doesn’t exist at all.
Also, if you have Dorico Pro, you can start it as Elements (or SE for that matter) by pressing modifiers on start up. I believe it’s Alt for Elements. Press it after starting Dorico until the splash screen appears.
Presumably if the OP has Pro which does everything he does not need to know what Elements cannot do, unless it is for a recommendation for somebody else. Sounds more like making a purchasing decision.
And I am puzzled - why would you ever want to start Pro as Elements, a more limited program? I suppose there must the be some use case for it if the option exists.
.
I often use this nice option to answer questions, in the Forum, from users that have only SE or Elements, so I am sure that the steps I do to make my suggestions are doable in those versions.
It’s useful to know what one’s students can and can’t do in a cheaper version of the program, for instance.
Good use cases I would never have thought of.
