Disappearing Rests

Anyone have any idea how I can restore the rests in this screenshot that have disappeared? “End voice” is not activated in the properties panel.

And the note in v2 also doesn’t Start Voice?

Yes, the note before should have Ends voice or the note after should have Starts voice. Upload your project if not.

Usually you can do a large selection (rather than try to find a specific note) and reset both the starts/ends voice properties

Shift B popover and type ‘rest’.

“Dorico Pro automatically shows rests as appropriate in the gaps between the notes you input.”
Where did my rest go? If Dorico automatically puts them there, why can’t I get an 8th rest on beat one like the rest of the music? I can delete and try to re-enter rhythms—same results. I can copy and paste from another measure—same results.
Missing rest

created new measure and the rhythm works:

I copied everything to the new measure 7, deleted the old m.6 and same thing—rest will not appear on beat one.

I can’t figure out what I could have done. I am so close to finishing this project.

Select the last note in m.5, open the bottom Properties panel, and make sure the Ends Voice property is not ticked.

I fixed by deleting an re-entering a few measures. I wouldn’t know anything about Ends Voice properties, but if this happens again, I hope I can remember. Is this something to do with switching between notated drum parts, slash regions and rhythmic notation? Thanks

I don’t think it’s related to that, but I’m not sure.

In terms of the properties, at a basic level, if you were to select some notes with a bunch of rests in between and do Edit > Remove Rests to hide the rests, Dorico sets the Ends Voice property on the last note before the rests and Starts Voice on the first note after the rests. So if there are “missing” rests in a piece, it’s good to check the note before the rests to see if it has Ends Voice set.
