Dividers/Spacer in Mix Console (or folder)

Hello, I find that working on large project (more than 40 audio tracks) very tedious as with busses, fx tracks etc… it becomes quite messy and very disorganized in the mix console.

I’d like a kind of spacer track that would be displayed on the mix console to separate things a little bit, just so that everything has it’s own zone.
It would be different from the current zones system as those are locked on the screen (and are useful in a different way).

I thought of how to implement that, and find that being able to display the folders directly in the mix console would solve many things. Being able to collapse them would be nice too, but the main purpose would be to make some space in the mix console. Probably, having an option to individually display or hide them from mix console would be nice too.

I know I can make an empty audio or fx track, color it and call it a day, but come on, it’s 2024 and soon 2025.

Totally agree!

Very fast, from the top of my head:
In the project page I know you can add an audio track (or any track really) and disable it… It can, by its disabled look, act as a divider/spacer.
I have no idea if that flows over to the Mix Consoles… But you may try

Just a quick thought… Good luck

@Carvin_Man For better or worse, channels of disabled tracks are automatically hidden in the mix consoles.

@OGAltmayer Having folders in the mix consoles is a long standing feature request that would be most welcome. I wouldn’t hold my breath however as Steinberg tends to have their own agenda.
I can only recommend to use the tools currently available. With 4 individually configurable consoles and Channel Visibility Configurations even very large channel counts can become manageable. If you haven’t already, creating templates will prove to be a huge time saver. I suggest including all imaginable group and fx channels in the templates at the very least. My philosophy is to have more channels than needed in my templates and ideally never have to add any channels to the project. This will benefit the Channel Visibility Configurations (since channels become visible in all configurations upon creation).
I also find it useful to employ a color scheme and stick to it. For example, one color for vocals, a darker shade of that for backing vox, another color for bass instruments and so on. For me, a smaller color pallet works the best. A fewer number of unique colors will create better contrast in the consoles.
Finally, I use a number of dedicated, programmable “mini keyboards”. One is being used for selecting visibility configurations in my “main” mix console.
There are a ton of them to choose from. From complex ones like Stream Deck to very rudimentary ones. I prefer the latter.

I like these types

I also changed out the key caps for colored ones.

Yes, please. (to the OP)

My solution to separating tracks and folders in the project window is to use ruler tracks. Configuring a few different mix consoles in the mix view I find helps there.
As mentioned, getting efficient with the tools available can go a long way.
There is always going to be something that’s needed and, over time, most get addressed.

Thank you… I was actually about to test this tomorrow… Now I don’t need to
