In the above the violas “click” or make a slightly arpeggiated sound on the first note of each bar in the divisi. If I remove the slur in the upper voice the problem disappears. Is there some way round this without losing the slur? I’m using VSL SS Pro. Thanks, CD
It’s probably a limitation with polyphonic legato. Both staves are routed to the same VST/port/channel. I know with other libraries that polyphonic legato is discouraged because of the symptoms you describe. It’s best to enable independent voice playback and route the divisi staff to a separate instance of the VST (or separate patch on a different channel).
I assume you have activated polyphonic legato in your SY Player? Top right button on the performance screen. It is anyway better to as Der Abgang mentioned use independent voice playback with a separate instance of the SY Player with your library. So you would have three instances one full section and two divisi with the volume set to 50% (best use CC11 as Dorico still decides to set your CC7 to 100% at the start of playback)
Thanks. I’ve enabled independant playback as suggested and it seems to work ok. The first staff on the violas plays legato through the viola patch and the second is playing C4 routed to the tutti version of appasionnata strings that came with one of my other vsl libraries. It sounds the way I want it to - I think that I’m correct in saying that C4 is also being played on the cellos and violins since it’s in their range. Thank you all.
