Divisi strings bug still there

I was just working on a project and found that there is still this bug for divisi strings. When you go from two staves to three staves Dorico hides the new stave 3 until the next system even if there are notes on it. This happens in score and parts. I find this quite unnerving when working on film projects where the scores are going off to a copyist who may not spot it and put in a system break in, meaning I have to be very vigilant when this happens. Considering one of the main advantages of Dorico is it dealing automatically with a lot of things this seems like a quite a big problem. Is there any plan to fix it? Thanks, Ben

This isn’t a bug, but rather a limitation in the way divisi works: only the first divisi change on a system will take effect. It’s not something we anticipate changing in the near term.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I’ll keep being vigilant then. Can’t have it all :wink: It’s a small thing compared to the advantages of working on Dorico!

Maybe these workarounds work.

-1- Try starting the 3 part dvisi at the start of the system where the first notes should be. You would have a few bars with the 3rd staff empty but it would not miss out on the notes otherwise invisible.

-2- Alternative put a system break where you start the 3 part divisi. Less attractive probably as it might create a nearly empty system before the three part system.

Thanks, yes, normally I put a page break in and work around it for the layout as that works for both part and score independently. The problem really comes when I’m working fast and working in gallery view and forget to check that kind of thing before sending to a copyist. I think your first workaround is good but only works for the score, still could have the same problem in the parts if they are not checked properly. Anyway, it’s not a big problem compared to things in Sibelius etc.

I like to put in text ”DIVISI CHANGE” and hide it so that only the signpost is visible. That way when doing score and parts I notice it with a higher probability.

Perhaps doricos proofreader could have a check for two divisis on the same system?
