I have to say by far my favorite rock music has come from the UK- the Beatles, the Who, the Kinks, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Strawbs, Eric Clapton, etc. but I don’t get the Oasis infatuation?

Neither do I. Distinctly average. But they got a lot of stick for, allegedly, mimicking The Beatles.
For me, you can add Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes( 
!), Van Der Graff Generator and Genesis (Pete Gabriel era).
One German band I love is Amon Düül II. (Surrounded By The Stars, especially live.)

Prog Rock is my favorite type of music with Genesis(up to Wind and Wuthering), ELP, and Yes at the top of the heap! There’s so many great bands, PFM, Banco, Gryphon, Starcastle, etc. A couple of bands I catergorize as rock had their prog moments as well- Rush, Kansas, Styx, etc.

For anyone not from the UK “meths” is the shortened version of methylated spirit.
Back in the day, when I were a nipper, we’d see homeless guys and tramps hanging around park benches drinking undiluted Ribena ( a UK blackcurrant cordial) mixed with meths.
Not to be confused with “meth”.
