Im looking to capture a room in a very specific way using ms and blumlein variations as well as positional variances to normal room sampling…so Im hoping 
Im not sure how to integrate but Im thinking of using ambisonics 2nd order to yield a bit more resolution in front to back so 8 channels should be enough but I would also like to capture the C channel for each position set? is it possible to maintain even a non C channel setup but use an implicit C channel capture to assist anchoring of Left to Right cues

Well - I don’t know if I really qualify as an expert, since I haven’t published any scientific work on the subject. But I invented and developed this, which is basically a tool for multi-positional, multi-directional, three-dimensional virtualisation of real spaces, with six degrees of freedom for both the signal source and the listener, relying on 3rd Order Ambisonics throughout its entire signal flow. A few years back I compiled the underlying concepts in this little primer.
… fun fact: Nuendo was used to record and edit all the thousands of IRs that were needed for the creation of this product.
