Does Cubase 14 have the same feature as Ableton Live?

Hello!
I watched a YouTube video where a producer used a Kontakt Library of electric guitar. In the video, he renamed some notes in the Ableton Live Key Editor to make it easier to see which MIDI notes switch the guitar’s playing style.

I have a couple of questions:

  1. Does Cubase 14 allow renaming notes in the Key Editor? For example, can I rename C1 to “Tremolo” or “Hard Sustain”?
  2. Is it possible to hide certain notes in the Key Editor? For example, can I display only the notes from C0 to C2 (2 octaves)?

What you’re seeing in that YT video is Live’s “Fold view” and key names are determined by the pad names used by Drum Rack device.

Cubase’s equivalent is Drum Editor or the new Pattern Editor, depending on what plugin you’re using and the workflow you prefer.

Thanks! The Pattern Editor is the closest thing to use with Kontakt as the Folded View in Ableton Live, but I will try to find another solution.

Frankly, I think Pattern Editor right now is pretty bad for melodic tracks. It was clearly designed for drums and the new Drum Machine in particular.

Please upvote my FR if you want it improved

I have found a solution:

  1. Create a new drum map

  1. Rename notes to your names, for example, C0 to KICK

  2. Choose your drum map from the list and create a MIDI track

  3. Select MIDI track and press MIDI - Open in Key Editor

  4. Choose Select Pitch visibility - Show Pitches from the Scale Assistant

Now you will see names over the notes

P.S. If you need to, you can hide all unused notes like in Ableton:

Select Pitch visibility - Show Pitches from events

That is an interesting solution. Cubase, however, offers a whole concept dedicated to these “keyswitches”. Kindly look at “Expression Maps”. Mind you, though, the Ableton approach is the quck and dirty one, while Cubase tries to cater for a bigger variety of usages. So it might come across as more complex.
