Hi, I’ve been following this extremely helpful forum for years, but this is my first post.
Yesterday, I finally upgraded from Dorico Pro 4 to Dorico Pro 5, but I have some unexpected trouble with the download from Steinberg Download Assistant. When I press the Install All-button, I get this error message: “The download directory (…)/Downloads/Steinberg does not have enough space for the requested downloads. Required 22033 MB, available: 18478 MB. Please provide enough space.”
But I have 120 GB of free space on my Mac, shouldn’t this be plenty enough?
I tried a restart, but that didn’t help. I’m on Mac Sonoma.
You’re sure that’s “free” space? MacOS does often fill up ‘empty’ disk space with “purgeable content”, APFS snapshots, and other stuff; and while it’s supposed to be deleted if required, it sometimes doesn’t.
Otherwise, try downloading directly from Steinberg website > Support > Downloads.
From the time when I used a Mac I remember it was possible to define a quota for a user. Is it possible that you have set a quota that limits your own user space?
Yes, it says 120.02 GB free of 494.38 GB, so it should be enough space.
But I’m the only user, and I’ve downloaded some large files before.
Well, what about the Download directory itself. Is there a quota defined?
Can you try to cleanup whatever is in the Downloads directory and retry the download?
Alternatively can you change the download location in the Download Assistant so that it points, for example, to an external drive.
The solution turned out to be quite simple. In Steinberg Download Assistant, instead of choosing Install All, I downloaded/installed all the files one at at time, and didn’t get any more errors. So now Dorico 5 is up and running. And I still got a lot of free space on the Mac (94 GB), So I guess the “not enough space”-error was just a bug or something.
Glad you are now up and running. Enjoy using Dorico…
Thanks, Juergen!
