Dorico 5 requiring admin rights on Windows 11

We have installed the Dorico software but it is requiring admin rights to run it. We do not have admin rights to our work computers. We tried contacting support and then gave permissions to the C:\ProgramFiles\Steinberg folder but it is still requiring admin rights to run the software. They were not able to give us any other information to make this work.

How can I use this software on my work pc if I do not have admin rights?

Thanks

I guess you also installed it as Admin User, correct?

That is never a good Idea, because now all components are owned by the Admin, including user specific elements.

This folder should not be modified with more user permissions. The Program Files folder has strict permissions, because it contains files and folders that are in some cases system relevant.

The was to get this working is to install the software as a normal user. The installer will ask for admin permissions during the installation, to get drivers installed, but user relevant elements are writeable by you and that is probably blocking you at the moment.

Unfortunately, we did not install it while logged in as an admin user. We installed it as the End User. It is requiring a admin password every time we try to open the software.

Did the installer ask for admin permissions during the installation?
There is usually a Dialog Box popping Up asking for permissions, the so called User Account Control (UAC)

Yes, we had to type in the admin password during the installation.

This sounds like something you need to take up with your work’s IT department.

My IT department has been working with me every step up of the way. The issue is not with them. The issue is with the software and allowing certain permissions. Any company worth their salt does not allow users admin permission for security purposes, and normally that works just fine. For example, when I used Finale on my work computer, it required an admin password to install, and to update. Dorico, however, is requiring an admin password every time upon opening to be able to connect with the sound libraries.

This is exactly how Dorico works.

This is the point that needs to be checked, because something is wrong in the installation on your machine.

I recommend you let your IT department clean the machine completely from Dorico and the other packages and restart the installation as a normal user. The way it behaves on your computer is clearly not the way it works.

One thing that came up to my mind right now, did you ever start the Activation Manager as Admin? I guess yes, if you say you need the Admin password.

There is a thread in the Cubase forum where @SKnapp explained that this has probably a bad effect.

Hi, in the other thread I left out that it should work as long as the client application (in this case Dorico) runs as Admin.
