Dorico 5 with Noteperformer?

Thanks, I’ll try that first thing tomorrow. I am used to their mixer having used it in Finale for quite a while. I actually like it.

The ‘!!’ means Dorico could not find or load the VST. Check under Preferences → VST Plug-ins to see if it’s blocked.

Maybe this is not the same mistake (that I made), since NP seems to work in Finale, but just to be on the safe side: don’t delete the VST2 plugin! Dorico loads the VST3 plugin, but the VST2 plugin is necessary to run NP.
The VST3 plugin is 735KB in size and only serves as a shell, the VST2 plugin is 1.15GB in size and contains the actual data.

Thanks for the response. clicking the e button has no effect.

Thanks, the VST/preferences box was unchecked so I checked it and restarted Dorico but the end result is the same as what I posted. I see I actually have NP 4 but I have yet to install it. I’m not sure if that will make a difference. I should mention I am on a Mac not pc.

It’s funny but I went to application support/Steinberg/Dorico 5/Note Performer and there are no vst files present. Only a doricolib file. And in plugin presets folder only 2 xml files, which I was surprised to see.

Pressing the “e” button just opens the VSTs UI. That nothing comes up suggests to me there’s an installation problem. I’m on Windows so I’m not familiar with MacOS paths and what to expect there. A reinstall of NP certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Yes I suppose but I just opened a file in Finale and NP 3 loads right in and plays. The only thing I can find resembling vst in the support folder is this: VST3PresetCompatibility. I’m not finding vst2 as bobmusic mentions anywhere.

Can you take a screenshot of your VST Plug-in section of Preferences? The ‘e’ won’t open anything because nothing is loaded (although Dorico clearly wants to load it).

If NP plays in Finale, then the VST2 file is definitely somewhere on your system. @derAbgang is right. This seems like a connection issue.

When you installed NP, did you install the VST3? My understanding is Finale uses the VST2, so perhaps you didn’t install it. Dorico requires VST3 so if it’s only seeing VST2, it will blacklist it.

Also, the locations you should be checking are

 /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/
 /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/

Ah, thanks for that. I’m seeing NP in the vst folder but no NP in the vst3/Steinberg folder. Please see attached.

Right, so either install NP4 making sure to check the VST3 install or see if you can white-list NP3 in the Preferences VST Plug-in section (It will likely be in the blacklisted section). It wouldn’t be in the Steinberg folder, by the way.

I’m on Dorico 5, I don’t see the white list/black list section in preferences. Did that change in this version?

Sorry, it’s called “Blocked” and “Allowed” under the VST2 section.

Mmm, here is what my preferences window looks like, it’s different from yours. And BTW, I did clear

& reset the audio engine cache.

Interesting. I’d at least expect to see the Aria VST2 blocked. I have no explaination. Personally, I’d just install NP4 making sure to check VST3 (and VST2 so Finale still works).

Thanks, I’ve been going between this thread and an older one looking for a solution. I’m attaching a diagnostic report in the hope that someone from Dorico will have a look. Next step is to install NP 4.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I went ahead and installed NP 4.5.1 and it works fine with: Dorico 5.1.7 on a mac, os 14.6 sonoma. It also works well on Finale 27.4. I haven’t tried Sibelius yet.
