Just installed Dorico 6.1 on my Windows 11 computer and got this when I tried to run it:

I see the same error, I’m on a Mac and so far that fix hasn’t resolved it for me.

I found Etude under my products / Dorico 6. It didn’t show up as an update

I don’t see Etude as a separate licence , but a few attempts and its fixed now.

That hasn’t fixed it for me. Windows11, 32GBram, lots of disk space. I’ve run the update for Dorico 6.1, I’ve “installed” Etude Elements (twice now), I’ve clicked on the “refresh icon” in Activation Manager (twice now), I’ve rebooted my computer, and every time I start Dorico 6.1 I get that same error message.
But the Etude Elements appears to be installing just fine, according to Steinberg Download Assistant. In Activation Manager I do not see an entry for Etude elements. I specified a folder in which to install Etude Elements – Download Assistant shows that it was installed. Yet within the folder I specified there is no subfolder for Etude Elements.
When I run Halion7 it shows an entry for Etude Elements yet all the instruments listed within Etude Elements shows the red “license missing” symbol.
I have no other way to install it other than through Steinberg Download Assistant.
Please help.

Hi @dhbailey , then let’s see what could be the problem with you.

Please do the following:

  • Open a Command Prompt and copy & paste the following command
dir /S /Q /N C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content > %userprofile%\Desktop\SMTGContents.txt
  • After pushing the Return/Enter key on your Desktop the file SMTGContents.txt should be found
  • Please zip it up and post here

SMTGContents.zip (13.1 KB)

Thank you for your help!

Further to this problem – I did a uninstall and re-install of Etude Elements and I selected the folder “C:\Steinberg Libraries\Etude Elements” and after the installation I can see the subfolder WIN64 with a subfolder “Etude Elements” in it. And in that last folder I can see the files for Etude Elements.
But Dorico can’t find it, and it’s not appearing in the Activation Manager, and Halion can’t find it either.

Thanks @dhbailey ,

it looks like Etude Elements is installed, but you have symbolic links to almost all Steinberg contents files, i.e. you moved them out to an external drive, right?

I could not see where the symbolic link points at, but can you please check for the two links

C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\HALionSMT_021_Etude_Elements_Presets.vstsound.lnk

C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content\HALion\VST/ Sound\SMT_022_Etude_Elements_Samples.vstsound.lnk

And you did already do the thing with the shift-click to refresh the license information?

I’m giving myself a head-slap because I missed the click while holding shift part. I was just clicking.
I’m all set now. So sorry for not reading more carefully!

No worries, I’m glad its running now with you.

Having the same issue with Etude Elements. However, I’m not seeing a refresh option. Running Mac OS 26.0.1. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I am seeing the Etude Elements folder with a couple files in my Downloads folder. Is it possible these files should belong somewhere else?

I think it’s in the Steinberg Activation Manager.

Wrong app. Thanks @jesele! That fixed it.

Well, that was unnecessarily convoluted but it eventually worked for me. I had to Refresh several times before it showed up in my download list.

I have the same situation as DHBaily. I initially just clicked on the refresh in Activation Manager. But when I hold the shift while clicking, it does nothing different. Etude does not show up either in Activated or Not activated. It does show as installed in Download manager.

I never moved any of the files from default locations. I am Windows 10.

I tried to do the diagnostic command (running as Admin) , but got

C:\WINDOWS\system32>dir /S /Q /N C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content > %userprofile%\Desktop\SMTGContents.txt
The system cannot find the path specified.

The Content folder does exist, but there is nothing about Etude in it. I can launch Dorico and create a new project without a diagnostic message, but piano is set to Halion Sonic and there is no VST option for Etude

I did “install again” on Etude Elements” after doing the shift-resync in Activation Manager, but still nothing appears for Etude Elements in the Content folder.
