Dorico 6 align dynamics offset?

Hey everyone, I’m wondering if anyone has encountered the same issue. When I use Align Dynamics, it doesn’t align correctly. As you can see in this pic, the mf should be lower so that its center aligns with the center of the hairpin.

Alright, it only lets me upload one picture at a time, so I’ll post the rest of them here….

I’ve checked my vertical spacing settings and they look fine.

Then I compared the music symbols and noticed a slight difference between Dorico 5 and Dorico 6.

Left: dorico 6. Right: dorico 5

However, when I drop this dorico 5 file into Dorico 6 via Library Manager, it says there’s no difference.

Now I’m a bit confused, what am I missing here? Is there a way to change the settings so Align Dynamics will center-align the dynamic with the hairpin? I’m aware of the grouping function, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to fix this globally.

Thank you!!

So I want Align Dynamics to look like this even when they’re ungrouped, as it should be. Does anyone know which settings I should change in Dorico 6 to achieve this? Thank you!

Hi @Valerie, and welcome to the Forum.

  • If the dynamics that you are trying to align are between the two staves of a Grand Staff instrument, the Align Dynamics command of Engrave mode will not work. Use Group Dynamics instead, for such cases:
  • If you don’t have a Grand Staff, then the only case in which I experience the Align Dynamics command not giving the expected result, is when you previously moved both the dynamics manually in Engrave mode. To reestablish their default position, select them, and (in Engrave mode) from menu Edit choose Reset Position. Then try to redo the Align Dynamics command.

(Generally it is suggested to use Group Dynamics to have them aligned, anyway)

If nothing helps, please post your Dorico file here, for someone to have a look.
