Dorico 6 crashed ; grayed-out menu; won't run (MacBook Pro)

Dorico 6 crashed during playback. The program technically reopens, but all the menu items are greyed out. I’ve tried restarting the computer, and quitting all Steinberg processes in Activity Monitor. I deleted all references to Dorico and Steinberg in Caches. I can’t even choose to run an Activity Report in Dorico. I took all the steps that ChatGPT suggested. Any suggestions?

After doing all of that, I would use the Download Assistant and reinstall everything for v.6.

I reinstalled everything with download assistant. No change. Do I have to delete my present Dorico App first?

Do you have access to the Create Diagnostic Report button in the Help menu? If so, attach the report here.

Rather than just opening Dorico, what happens if you open a file directly from Finder?

I’ve downloaded and ran the .pkg. It says “Installed”, but still no change.

The install should overwrite the current app.

Create Diagnostic Report is greyed-out like all the other menu items.

Can you use the Jump bar?

Still no change. The file doesn’t open.

It gets sent to your Desktop.

Jump Bar? is that when you hit J

Yep, that’s it.

“J” does nothing

What gets sent to my desktop?

Sorry, I meant the report; you meant the project.

I’m not sure what else to suggest. Hopefully one of the team will be able to give us some advice when they wake up and get to work.

There are many files in Dorico Diagnostics on my Desktop. Should I send any? the zip file?

If they are recent and you think relevant? Can’t hurt. (Yes, the zip)

All the files are all dated October, 2025 Zip file is too big to send. Thanks for trying. Maybe in the morning…

One last thing, try opening Dorico Pro as Dorico Elements: hold Alt/Opt when you select the app. Any change?

EDIT:

And do to recall what you were doing when it originally crashed?

The files are way too old anyway. Instead please do following: Download and unzip the attached file and in the folder you’ll find a script file, which will create “manually” a diagnostic report. In order to execute that script, open a Terminal window (do a Spotlight search for Terminal.app). Drag and drop the script file into the Terminal window and hit the Return/Enter key, after a few seconds a Dorico6DiagnosticsReport.zip file shall appear on your Desktop. That one please post here.
