Dorico 6 on older Macs

HI,

I did some maintenance to my old MacBook Pro, to see what works and what not. It is a 13" model from 2015, based on a 2-core i5 @ 2.9GHz, with 8GB or RAM and 512GB of drive. Running Monterey, the last officially supported OS.

Would you believe? Dorico Pro 6 runs smoothly on it. The older version that was installed (3.5) was way slower. I’ve not tried overly complex scores, but a short orchestral score scrolled smoothly on an external display connected via HDMI.

As far as I can say, I can install the latest version of InDesign. Affinity V2 and V3 run perfectly fine.

Well, I guess I can wait still a little, before purchasing a new portable Mac.

Dorico 6 has certainly made some optimizations that have improved performance.

For sure! I have Dorico 6 on my 2015 MacBook Pro. No problems!

I don’t use this machine for any heavy VST note-check/playback except for NotePerformer. I have a MacMIni 2023 M2Pro for more heavy-duty VST or plugin use.

It’s a fantastic Dorico eco-system when used in conjunction with iCloud, which allows you to move projects from machine to the other when needed…plus, my old 2018 iPadPro runs the Dorico app just fine (except for using Ionica playback or anything like that; it’s excellent for any straight ahead notation)

And the beautiful thing is, no subscriptions just waiting to mess you up an not being able to use the software when you least expect it!
