I just purchased Dorico 6 and was only able to launch it successfully once. After closing it, the application froze. Now, whenever I try to reopen it, it gets stuck for about 30 seconds during the audio engine initialization, then displays a message saying it can’t connect. At that point, I can either let it hang indefinitely or terminate it manually.
I had similar issues with Dorico 5, but found that waiting a few seconds between quitting and reopening usually resolved the problem. Unfortunately, with Dorico 6, the issue persists regardless of how long I wait.
Welcome to the forum, @Luca_Sutto. Sorry to hear of the problems you’re experiencing. It looks like the audio engine might have hung – there’s only one audio engine log file, and it doesn’t show clean termination.
Can you try running Activity Monitor and see if you can find a VST Audio Engine process in the list of running processes? (You can type “VST” into the search box in the toolbar.)
If you do, force quit it, then wait a few seconds, and then try running Dorico 6 again.
If this doesn’t help, try rebooting your Mac, and then try again.
Thank you for all the answers. In the end, I resolved it just by restarting the Mac — stupidly, I hadn’t thought of that. Really appreciate the great support!
