Dorico 6 will not start: "cannot connect to the audio engine"

I am becoming increasingly frustrated and dissatisfied with Dorico. As a long-time Finale user, I was excited to upgrade to Dorico 6 Pro for new features. I have had Dorico 5 Pro for months. I purchased Dorico 6, and it has completely messed up 5 and 6. Dorico 6 appeared to install and license fine. Now, neither 5 nor 6 will open at all, and I get a message: “Dorico cannot connect to the audio engine”. I have been on the phone with tech support, and he was not able to help me remotely. I am using Windows 10, and Dorico 5 was working fine before I installed Dorico 6. Now neither one of them work. I am beginning to question the competence of Steinberg software developers, as Dorico is currently useless to me. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program with no success. I have restarted my computer several times, which has not helped. I don’t know what else to do.

In order that I get a better first overview, please unpack the attached zip file. Contained is a batch file that will do something similar like the Dorico menu Help > Create Diagnostic Report. If you double click that batch file a zip file shall get created on your Desktop. Please attach that to a reply here. Thanks
CreateDorico5DiagnosticsReport.zip (813 Bytes)

The other batch file is for Dorico 5, here comes one for Dorico 6.

Ulf-
The folder created on my desktop is too large to email. Also, I now have a folder on my desktop labeled DoricoTempInfo that I cannot delete. This problem appears to be going from bad to worse.

Can you upload it to a file sharing service like Dropbox or Google Drive, and post a link here?

I’ll try DropBox.

Terry: I know you’ve got bigger problems right now, but you’re posting to the forum via email, and we’re getting your signature in every post – including your email address.

I’m sure Ulf will get you back up and running.

Thank you for noticing. Ulf has helped me restore Dorico 5. I am now reinstalling Dorico 6 to see if it works.

Also Dorico 6 is now running again with Terry.

The issue is the latest MediaBay version that automatically gets installed if you run the Steinberg Download Assistant (in order to get the latest Dorico update). It does not affect every PC , it’s only a very small number, but if affected, Dorico will crash on every start-up.
A temporary workaround is to downgrade to the previous MediaBay version. In case you are affected, I can provide the installer for such downgrade.
But it goes without saying that we are working now on a fix version.
