Good morning everyone,
I’ve installed my copy of Cantai on a Mac Mini M4 Pro, and Dorico Pro is updated to the latest version.
For a complex project for voice and orchestra, I use NotePerformer and Cantai.
There are no issues with playback, but when I export audio, the folder is created but the progress bar doesn’t move, and the process gets stuck.
Does this happen to you as well?

Could you please post a diagnostic report (Help > Create Diagnostic Report)?
Maybe the log files give me a hint of what the problem could be.

Dorico isn’t exporting audio with Cantai, it will export other instruments right now but Cantai parts come out silent. Is there a trick or setting I need to use?

I’m not sure why this is happening in your case so I don’t know if this might help, but I’ve had some success exporting as separate tracks and recombining them in another app (like Audacity).

Thanks for the suggestion, Jim, but oddly I had tried to export as separate tracks first. That didn’t work either. It plays fine and will export piano in the same piece, just not Cantai.
Can you post the file or a cut down version of it?
Was any of the file an import from xml?
Sure, this is the single flow from a larger file. I assume its going load the playback engine correctly. It may become part of a score for a play I’m working on.
John, this plays and exports for me (mp3 – I didn’t try any other formats). Have you tried re-applying the playback template? (And the usual suspects of rebooting your computer or restarting Dorico?)
This segment only had the vocals, so maybe the instrumental parts are interfering? I don’t have pianoteq but I’m assuming that your playback template has cantai (first) and then pianoteq?

HI Jim, then it must be something on my end. I think the pianoteq instances are first in the playback file, I didn’t build this off a template though. Pianoteq is in there because the guitar is using just intonation and Pianoteq covers it better than Dorico. But I also couldn’t get the male choir to play back either.

Rebooting didn’t help, neither does trying different formats or separate tracks. I’ll check again to make sure I’ve got the most recent versions running of Dorico and Cantai again tonight. Only other thing I can think of is Dorico being fussy with other audio programs open, as I’ve been keeping Digital Performer open to export cantai parts as midi and then using synthesizerV for chorus, which does work great as well.
Many programs don’t like to share audio resources. Try exporting it with only Dorico running, then check to see if the file is there, close Dorico and try to play it. (You may have to go back to the separate tracks and recombine method but the most recent updates seem to have helped with that.)
And try to rename the exported file to something else and try to play that in your media player. Does that make noise?
Hi Ulf, the file is silent with Cantai. I can export piano from the same file but not Cantai. I’ve tried it now with no other audio programs running and same result. Exporting as separate files doesn’t work, neither does mp3 or other file formats. Cantai and Dorico are both latest versions. OSX 15.6.1, M1. It plays fine but renders/exports silent. I can’t find any settings inside Cantai that might affect export, it says full license and connected to Cantai. There is no Cantai app that I know of and one wasn’t installed with the Cantai installer. Its very odd.

When you try to export Cantai and the exported file does not play, how does the file look like in terms of file size, especially compared to the successful piano export?
Hi Ulf, I expect its something odd in my system, but its also odd within Dorico. I’ve had some resource hogs in background processing that I’ve been trying to track down that’s causing audio stuttering, I just updated to Tahoe to see if that helps. And now just went to Cantai 3.0, same issues.
Back to this issue, Cantai parts just render as silence no matter the settings. What I should do is start up a new file and test that out but I’m in the middle of a deadline and just trying to finish. So the files render as full size just silent, if there are other parts they export correctly but Cantai parts are just rendered as silence.

I’m still having export issues in this one file. I’ve tried exporting flows as xml, resetting the cache, opening and waiting 30 minutes for rendering and all export options.
Is it possible that Cantai has issues with multiple flows in one file?
When I try to export from this one file the mixer faders are blank and all Cantai parts come out as silent, while other parts export fine. As mixes and separate tracks. The only thing that I can think of is multiple flows causing problems.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
When this happens to me, I empty the Cantai cache, save & close the Dorico project, and then reopen the project allowing it to render it all again. If you haven’t tried this, it might be worth a few minutes of your time.
Also, audio exports only work with Cantai on the first flow of the project if saving as separate audio files for each flow. If you export the entire project, Cantai generally exports appropriately for the entire thing.

I’ve tried emptying the cache and that didn’t work but haven’t tried exporting the entire project. I’ll give that a try.
