I am new to Dorico Pro and am not getting the audio (sound) to go through my speakers. I use a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface and am using a Mac OS computer. Can someone tell me how to get Dorico to play through my speakers ? Thanks in advance for your help…Barney
In the Dorico menu, choose Dorico > Preferences > Play. If you scroll to the bottom, you will see “Audio Device Setup”. If you click that, you will probably find that the ASIO driver is set to internal audio. Choose the 2i2 instead.
Hi @mhcoffin, you are right with what you write, but with Edit > Device Setup you get much easier there.
Yes, you are right. (I automatically hit ⌘, and proceed from there, so I just translated that back to a menu for simplicity.)
Thanks very much…I was able to do that …which is - for me - an amazing event !!

Is it possible to make a setting here the default? I’m using Bluetooth speakers, and they work fine when selected in Device Setup, but next time I open a file the setting has reverted to the tinny Realtek internal PC speakers. This even happens if I reduce the Dorico window down and then back up again.
Hi @Gareth_Glyn ,
that’s unusual and should not happen. Could you please do such a circle, i.e. select your BT phones, minimize the window, wait few seconds and then bring it back again?
After that please choose from Doric’s menu Help > Create Diagnostics Report and attach the corresponding zip file to a reply here. Thank you
Hi Ulf –
Sorry, I’d forgotten that I’d also put the PC in sleep mode after minimizing (I’ve just checked, and mimizing alone does not have the effect I mentioned. But just in case I’m attaching the Diagnostics Report.
However, I’d still like to know whether it’s possible to make the Bluetooth speakers my default choice. My Scarlett interface, before it was fried by a lightning strike, opened every time I started Dorico, meaning I never needed to go to Device Control Panel.
Best wishes,
Gareth
@Gareth_Glyn , thanks for the diagnostics. So you are using the Steinberg Built-In ASIO driver. That one can “see” the output ports of all the audio device that are connected and receives notifications of when ports go away or arrive new. When that happens we try to remap audio ports, but since ASIO does not have a concept of default ports, it simply uses the first stereo port that it can find. In most cases that is then the built-in .loudspeaker. But if then the BT ports return it does nothing, because it does not remember the history, so you have to choose again manually. So unfortunately I have no better advice than bying a new Scarlett.
@Gareth_Glyn : maybe it’s better to edit your personal mail address out of your post.
Done. Thanks. Strange though - its appearance there was a consequence of the fact that I was replying to an email with an email, and by doing that the contents automatically (AFAICS) appear on the forum post.
I still haven’t got round to buying a new interface, but it’s just a couple of button presses to switch to the Bluetooth speakers, as I’ve been doing now for some weeks. It might be of interest, though, for me to note that on firing up the computer and then Dorico this morning, I noticed ‘Edifier Speakers’ momentarily popping up in the progress description as the program loaded, and - sure enough - they’d been located and connected by Dorico and I didn’t need to do the switch manually. It’s probably not going to happen again, but I was intrigued to seeing it happen once.
Actually, could it be that on the prior application shutdown you had the BTs connected and played Dorico through them. Because Dorico’s audio engine always remembers the last used output ports and tries to connect to those on the next start-up again.
Maybe you can try out yourself by running some cycles where you use some output ports, shutdown and restart Dorico and check where audio comes through. Then change ports and do another cycle. You understand what I mean?
Absolutely, Ulf. Thank you. I’d just like to mention, though, that the last thing I’m usually doing before I shut down the computer for the night is using Dorico with playback through the BT speakers, and every morning (until today) Dorico’s startup has linked to the internal speakers and I’ve needed to switch manually. But I’ll certainly experiment as you suggest.
ummm… newbie here, and I don’t see a Dorico menu (or a Preferences menu). And I’m not getting any sound, so I’d like to see where the audio output settings are. I am on PC; Dorico PRO5. Thank you. I’m having a helluva time learning this complicated menu structure, and I’m coming from Finale.
