My name is Henrik and I just had Dorico crash working on a project. The issue I found together with this is that, even though I have saved the project several times manually, as well as having backups saved every 1 minute, there were no backups of the project I was working on, for the last 4 hours when I tried to open it again.
This is, as you understand, very problematic, as I am working for a recording orchestra - Stockholm Studio Orchestra - and we have an urgent deadline coming up, which makes 4h of work quite serious to remake.
Is there a way to recover the backed up project in some way, and how are we able to not have this problem ever happen again?
Nothing in the trash, and nothing in the backup projects-folder. I am using the default backup folder path, and also searched my entire computer for the file name. There is no file created for the last 4h from the crash time.
Can you confirm that your Preferences are set to create backups?
What about Auto-saves? Dorico normally saves a copy to the Auto-Save folder, and files here are put in the trash on successful quit.
Do you have Time Machine? You should have an hourly version, if so.
I’ve not witnessed a similar problem, so it’s very unusual. Make sure that the document you have is from the expected location. Sometimes you might open an old version, which doesn’t have the latest work. You can check the filepath by Command clicking on the filename in the window bar.
I’ve encountered a similar issue and wanted to share my situation. I’m working on an iMac (M1, 2021). Dorico suddenly crashed and I’ve lost about 1.5 hours of work.
My auto-save interval is set to 5 minutes, and I was working on the latest version of my last manual save. I did find one backup that was created about 10 minutes after I started working on the file, but nothing after that. No other backups appear in the Backup folder, and nothing in the Trash either. Unfortunately, I didn’t have Time Machine activated before the crash, so that wasn’t an option for recovery.
I was wondering if there could be any known reason why this would happen.
Did you get an option to restore a recovered file when you restarted Dorico?
You’ll need to supply a Diagnostic Report from the Help menu and upload it here.
I’ve found Dorico’s Backups and Auto-saves to be very reliable. But I still habitually “save as I go”, so that I never have more than a few minutes of unsaved work.
