"Dorico cannot connect to the audio engine. The application will now quit."

I recently purchased the Finale to Dorico Pro 5 Crossover. I use a MacBook Pro running macOS Sonoma 14.6.1.

I have not been able to use Dorico since I have installed the software. I keep getting the message that “Dorico cannot connect to the audio engine. The application will now quit.” I have tried to close the VST Audio Engine as suggested in the Forum, along with other suggestions, but I haven’t been successful.

I have been told that Ulf is the “audio engine guru”, so I hope to hear from you, sir! I am not as “computer savvy” as most of your users may be, but I am disappointed that I have had this challenge to accessing, and hopefully using and liking, Dorico. Thanks, in advance, for your suggestions to fix this issue!

Welcome to the forum @BigJDub2 .
And yes, it’s me, the audio engine repair man…!
First thing to look at, go to /Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Components and rename that folder temporarily to something else, e.g. _Components. Then try again to start Dorico, still the same?

Edit: Please note, that path starts with a slash, so it begins in the root of your harddrive, not in the home directory. To get there in Finder, choose the menu item Go > Go to Folder and copy and paste the complete path there. Push the return key and Finder shall take you there.

Hi, Ulf! Followed your directions and found a very old HALion Sonic SE.vst3 from 2014! So proceed with renaming this or you suggest something else?

Delete that old thing, it’s not needed anymore. HALion Sonic is the successor to HALion Sonic SE. SE is dead. RIP

LOL! Understood!

Ulf! You are truly THAT “audio engine guru”, SIR! Problem solved! Dorico Pro 5 is “reporting for duty”! Thanks very much!
