Dorico - Chord Symbols

I’ve been using Finale since 1991 and since then, I’ve created more than 80 suffixes for the chord symbols I use.

Dorico really disappointed me in terms of chord symbols. Not being able to create unusual chord symbols and use them on any chord root is very disappointing. For example, it is impossible to create a simple C7(9, #11, 13) and enter that chord by typing C7(9#1113).

When will Steinberg adopt the same system as Finale to create any suffix, save it in a library and then be able to load it into a new project?

Hopefully, soon. Importing isn’t really relevant (Dorico can already do that). It’s the customisation-over-any-root that is tripping you up, unless I’m mistaken.

Is it just personal preference having the 9 inside the parentheses?

Hi Daniel, thanks for the response.

Are you the moderator of this thread? Do you talk to Dorico programmers about the topics discussed here?

Choosing one or another type of suffix is not just a matter of my preferences. As a copyist, I have to meet all kinds of demands from publishers and composers.

The developers read everything on this forum, so rest assured they’ll see it. Many users here have made requests about more versatility in managing custom chord symbols, so they know there’s a need for it.

Many thanks. I’ll wait for an improvement in Dorico’s chord symbol tools. In the meantime, I will continue working with Finale V27.

Totally understandable.
