Dorico crashing and acting weird

Help! Dorico is crashing on me over and over, and even when it isn’t crashing, it is not working properly.

I’ve imported about 100 Music XML files into separate flows in a Dorico session. Prior to import, I deselected all of the options in MUSIC XML Import options in preferences, so that Dorico would apply its own preferred settings. I also reset appearance and position.

So far, reasonably good, with some odd anomalies that may be XML related or Sibelius related. (Not listing those here for brevity, but happy to forward them too, if desired.) However, Dorico is crashing constantly while trying to make edits, and when it isn’t crashing it is not working as expected. A few examples of what is happening:

  1. Dorico is running very slowly and it is crashing randomly, but often. I haven’t yet identified a specific action that will cause a crash.
  2. When I relaunch Dorico after a crash, the file (which was successfully saved before the crash) has disappeared from the recent projects window, although it’s still in the Dorico projects folder.
  3. The file periodically jumps back to the first flow when I use Command Z to undo something.
  4. Dorico won’t allow me to insert a double barline at the end of a system when there is a start repeat at the beginning of the next system, something I can successfully do in other Dorico projects in 1.1. It erases the start repeat if I add the double barline and vice versa.

I’m running OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan.

Thanks!

You don’t need to insert a double barline at the end of one system when there is a repeat barline at the start of the next: as you have found, the one will overwrite the other. Instead, you need to go to the Barlines page of Engraving Options and set the appropriate option there.

Can you please zip up and email me your project and the crash logs Dorico is producing? You’ll find them in /Users/your-user-name/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports. My email address is d dot spreadbury at steinberg dot de.
