A zip file has appeared on my desktop called “Dorico diagnostics.” It contains about 400 files.
Is this because Dorico crashed recently? Should I send this to someone?
Dorico crashes a lot on my machine. Sometimes, when I close the lid. Or other times it just goes into the background and won’t open or close, and the only solution is to restart the machine. This happens regularly.
Yes, you should upload the diagnostics and add some more information on what release of Dorico you are using and what Operating System.
Also please try to describe some steps that lead to a crash.
Thanks. Is there a particular place to upload it?
You can upload them here to this thread, provided the archive is 4MB or smaller. If it’s larger than 4MB, you’ll need to upload it to a cloud provider of some kind, and post a link here.
OK Thanks. Here is the Diagnostics file uploaded.

There are no crash logs in your diagnostics, I’m afraid. I wonder whether perhaps Dorico is hanging rather than crashing? If you find the window turns white and says that the application has stopped responding, and you then need to forcibly quit it, that’s a hang, rather than a crash.
In such situations, you should follow the steps described by @Ulf here:
This will create a minidump file that we may then be able to examine.
I was using Dorico today and it crashed. I’m uploading the diagnostics folder that’s currently on my desktop. I’m not sure what’s going on. Also, the audio in Dorico has not been working the last couple of days.

Hi @lawrenceashields , your diagnostic contains one crash file of the audio engine and it is actually GrooveAgent SE that is crashing the audio engine.
You have already the latest GrooveAgent version.
I’ll make aware my colleagues, who work on GrooveAgent, about this crash. Let’s see with what they can come up with…
Hello Ulf
I hope you’re well. With Christmas and new year behind us, I can upload this crash report that was generated on 11/12/24.

Frankly, a get quite a lot of crashes with Dorico. Sometimes it just disappears into the background and I can’t see it or use it or open it, tho Task Manager says it’s still running. Sometimes, after these crashes, my machine is whirring like a helicopter as it sorts itself out.
Any tips would be great.
Thanks

Hi @Mnatseah , Happy New Year!
Thanks for the data, but actually there is no crash dump contained, not even a hang file. Also, the logs of the 10 previous runs all look complete and with a quick glance show no abnormalities. Especially, they all exit in the intended way.
Only the current run (starting 2024-12-11 16:27:34) shows Dorico waiting for the audio engine to launch. The audio engine on the other hand looks like being stuck in the VST3 plug-in scanning, but I can’t tell with certainty. Therefore, the next time it happens, please have a look in the Task Manager for the background processes VSTAudioEngine, vstscannermaster and vstscanner. Are all 3 of them around? What is their status? Is there one or two vstscanner processes and do they change process id (PID) from time to time.
You say it happens frequently with you; can you maybe even provoke it, so that you could show me in a remote screen sharing session. That would make my lifle easiest. I can help you also here via the forum, but it will end up in a very long conversation. Certainly possible to find out in the end, but also quite tedious and timely. Let me know what you think. Thanks
Hi @Tobiah , it would be nice if you could explain what problem you are actually facing. Thanks
