Dorico Does Already Support MPE?

MPE is part of MIDI 1.0 and there is really nothing special that hosts have to do to support it except enabling different MIDI channel per voice, which Dorico already does.

To test it:

  1. Create a treble staff with C5 chord sustained over few bars

  2. Assign C and G to different voices

  3. In Play Mode, enable independent voice playback and assign different MIDI channels to each voice

  4. Load Arturia’s Pigments, Augmented Strings, or other MPE-enabled VST (make sure that MPE is actually enabled in VST’s own settings)

  5. Set the VST as the output for both voices

  6. Draw different (e.g. opposite) pitch bend curves for two voices

  7. Play and listen how C and G notes bend in opposite directions
