Got the Spitfire sounds to work with my Dorico scores (thanks for earlier help) and now am working on a full concert band piece. I have sounds assigned and working (a mixture of Spitfire BBC orchestral, Spitfire Epic, and HALSonic instruments), but dynamics in the score are not played. As I’ve mentioned before, not looking to make performance level playback. I primarily am a composer/arranger, and just want to hear my score and give people a general idea. Need help. Thanks!
Any ideas? Playback picks up tempos and tempo changes, but not dynamics.
Hi @RMH, the problem with dynamic Playback is probably due to a wrong configured Expression Map. Can you post a cut-down version of your Dorico project, that presents the issue? (Describing in detail what unexpected happens). So someone can look into it and find the culprit.
Okay. Hope this will help (and that it works - not a computer guy). I am uploading (I hope) a copy of the file with the intro and the first phrase. I know that the dynamics as marked are subtle changes (and I think I was tricking myself into hearing them) but larger changes later made it obvious that dynamics were not being played. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.
Prelude and Scherzo - Upload.dorico (1.6 MB)
Well, still trying. In the Track Inspector for each instrument, I have CC11 Dynamics selected - changed from Default. Should this be on something else?
I really like the sounds I am getting (mostly Spitfire BBC Orchestra with some HALSonic), but would really like for playback to play dynamics from the score.
You should use the correct expression maps for each instrument.
You can get the right one for your version of BBCSO here…
Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra Templates – Dorico
Since you use a mix of BBCSO and Halion instruments you should create a custom Playback Template to suit your ensemble.
Thank you - sounds like this may be somewhat easier than I was trying to make it.
