This is slightly off-topic and probably simple, but I can’t find an answer.
In the Finder, the icons for my PDFs and .dorico files all look pretty much the same. I’d really prefer the orange Dorico icon for .dorico files so they’re easy to spot among the sea of PDFs. How can I do that?
Thanks. 98% adjusted to Mac… this is one of the few pain points remaining.
In Finder’s View Options (which apply to the selected folder), there is a setting for whether icons should show a preview image (e.g. a picture of the actual contents), or the document icon.

It is possible to set default View Options; but I’ve forgotten how.
Thanks, that helps!
Is there a way to change the Dorico icon to the bright orange one?
The document icon design is defined within the app itself.
I mean… in Windows, you can make your cat be the program icon… I guess this is the fabled loss of control Mac is known for.
On the bright side, it’s harder to turn your OS into a dumpster fire.
You can change the app’s own icon, just by copy and pasting in the Get Info window.
You can change an individual document’s icon in the same way: but you can’t have it done automatically for all documents.
There might be a way to do that but you have to go into the application package (control-click the application icon and choose “show package contents”.) Open the resultant folder and then open the resources folder. Inside of that are .icns files that you might be able to alter (Xcode? Xcode - Apple Developer) - at your own risk, naturally. Ben beat me to an easier method.!
How, exactly? I’ve piddled with it for 20 minutes trying to figure it out.
If you right click > Get Info on the Dorico app you’ll see:
Copy the icon in the upper L corner.
Now Get Info on the document(s) whose icon you wish to change and Paste the icon.
Also, this looks promising:
