Hello everybody!
Is there a possibility that Dorico or any other Steinberg product will be released for Linux someday?
There is a lengthy discussion on the subject here:
In short: It’s unlikely that Steinberg will release a version to run on Linux; but some people have had a partial success getting Dorico (and the associated other software like the licensing) to run on Linux using WINE.
Yes, I also think it’s unlikely that Steinberg will make its software for Linux one day…
Many companies claim not to bring their software to Linux because they have few users but, if you look closely, the Mac also has few users given the high prices that Apple charges, not everyone has a Mac and even so companies make it available your software for this OS.
So in my opinion there is a prejudice among companies towards Linux.
Businesses that want to make money will make decisions based on facts. There are around 100 million Mac users. This is estimated to be c. 14% of total desktop usage, with Linux on c. 4%, so ~ 28 million users.
Macs have traditionally done well in areas such as print, design, video, and music, so there is likely to be a high proportion of the total Mac userbase interested in paying for Steinberg products.
How many of the Linux userbase are “personal” users interested in music is unknown. How many of them would pay commercial prices for software, is also unknown.
All these points are covered in the other thread. There’s no need to start another.
