Could someone clarify the pricing model on the iPad for me, if I decide to purchase Dorico Pro 5 for Macbook? I don’t really understand what is free and what comes with the paid subscription (also, how much does it cost?)
I paid a one time fee for Dorico Pro 5. There’s no subscription that I’m aware of. I’ll say this, if you purchase Dorico Pro 5 for MacBook, you get literally everything.
Oh interesting, from what I saw, there was an implication on the iPad version that there was a cost to the iPad version. Thanks!
Yeah, from what I understand, you can download Dorico Pro 5 on up to three devices be they the same or different kinds of devices. I’d assume iPad is in that lineup? Might help to call and see.
No. The computer and iPad editions of Dorico are separate and having one does not entitle you to use the other. The iPad edition can be used in a free version, or you can subscribe to a version with more features OR you can pay once for a lifetime subscription.
Do you know what the cost is? I can’t seem to find an actual number anywhere
Ahh, well, if that’s the case then I won’t be getting the iPad version. I never planned on getting it anyway since I do all my stuff on the MacBook Pro. I don’t see how the iPad version would make things more convenient for me as it would for others.
Looks like it’s $4 USD per month or $40 USD per year .
Ah cool thanks. Any inkling as to what the non free version offers?
I do not as I don’t have it. But, my guess is that the free version will not have all of the sound packages and other creative packages that come with Dorico Pro 5. I came from Finale V27 when the big announcement was made. So I paid the discounted cross grade price for Dorico Pro 5. I’ll say this though, if I would’ve had an idea of what Dorico Pro 5 was capable of before, I would’ve paid the full $579. As I’ve used it the last couple of weeks, things seem to get easier.
You can see a side-by-side comparison between ipad and other versions on the Dorico website.
Thanks for this I somehow missed it!
Yes, it does really seem to be good. I’m very heavily leaning that direction.
Then I won’t be getting it. I don’t buy ANY subscription software. Maybe there is a free version of MuseScore for iPad? If so, I might try to use that and then save my work as XML files and import them into Dorico on my desktop computer. I’ll have to check into that.
Dorico for iPad is also available as a “lifetime” subscription where the only real connection to other subscriptions is in the name. You pay once and can then use the app forever (if you live that long!) AND download future updates without charge.
It’s also worth saying that Dorico for iPad itself is free, and provides functionality similar to Dorico SE without you requiring to pay a penny.
I was a Finale user from the 1990’s. When I got the notice last August I promptly bought and downloaded Dorico. There is a learning curve but I have yet to be stumped by anything that someone can’t answer. The support from this community is amazing.
I am now a full fledged Dorico fan/user and am probably going to get the lifetime subscription to Dorico for iPad. I use a MacBook Pro with the M3 chip and the newest iPad. I also have Dorico on a Mac Studio. I don’t think you will regret getting Dorico!
