Dorico on WOA (Windows On ARM) systems

Has anyone run into issues with Dorico running on the new Arm chips for Windows?

Dorico is not yet ported to the Arm architecture. It is running in the x64 emulation layer on Arm windows and there are chances this might cause issues.

But does it work?

I’m sure someone with an ARM setup could test the trial version.

You know it if you try it, but I wouldn’t bet on it. With an emulation you will always have a chance of something that is not working as expected.

What 'arm could it do?

cue general confusion from non-anglophones.

Wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg to trial it.

On a Microsoft Surface 11 Snapdragon: Dorico 5.1.81 works ok as far as basic notation functions are concerned . However, it seems to have problems with playback of Steinberg’s own instruments, Halion, Groove Agent, etc. (latest arm-enabled versions). They don’t appear in the instrument list. Other - non-Steinberg - instruments (Kontakt, Swam, etc.) seem to work ok. The Steinberg instruments are installed correctly, as arm-enabled Cubase handles them correctly.

Dorico 6 is not offered for download in the Download Assistent for WoA - so still no support of Dorico 6 on WoA.

WoA support is non-trivial for Dorico. There are a lot of moving parts: not only Dorico itself (which is contingent on what ARM64 support is provided by Qt), but also the audio engine, VST plug-ins, and so on. We will certainly support WoA with a native version in the future, but it’s hard to say exactly when that will be.

Not to mention that Windows itself is probably full of much more moving parts than macOS (if my assumption based on limited technical understanding is correct), having to be made able to run on such a vastly diverse range of configurations…

Thank you, Daniel. I am aware of this, I am also waiting for WoA-support for other (non Steinberg) products, notably various ASIO drivers. What is a little bit sad is that Dorico 5 could be installed on my WoA machine a while ago, but no longer by now. Yes, it has problems with playback but for taking some notes while on the road, it is ok.
