Dorico Pro 5 "Audio Engine Process Died" Error

Hello, all,

I have been using Dorico Elements 5 since January 2024 and have upgraded to Dorico Pro 5 as of September 2024. This evening, I had a repeated issue in which Dorico Pro 5 would stall on the splash screen and give an error message saying, “Dorico cannot quit to the audio engine. The application will now quit.”

I am using Dorico Pro 5.1.81 and would like this issue resolved as soon as possible for my Music Theory class, please.

Thank you and have a great day,

Cynthia (they/them)

Hi @jiayi6868, one first thing that you can try is to open the Task manager (right clicking on the grey bar on the lower part of your screen or using the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Esc), navigate to the “Processes” tab, see if the VST Audio Engine is running. If so select it and click End Task. When it disappears from the Task Manager list, try to relaunch Dorico.

Hello, Christian,

I do not see the audio engine in my PC’s Task Manager.

Thank you for the assistance.

Hi @jiayi6868, I updated my previous post: did you switch to the Processes tab, in the Task manager?

(also a PC restart could help…)

Otherwise, please be patient until someone of the Team will answer you tomorrow (now it is middle in the night here in Europe).

@jiayi6868 It will speed things up and help the Dorico tech team if you upload your diagnostics. Do Help>Create Diagnostics report and upload here the zip file that is created on your desktop.

The diagnostics ZIP file is too large to be uploaded to the forum.

Hi @jiayi6868 , please send the diagnostics file directly to me via e-mail to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de. Thanks very much

User jiayi6868 marked my previous posting as solution. Well, obviously sending me the diagnostics is not the solution. It turned out that an update of the audio engine solved the issue.
