Dorico with Fable Sounds Bigband 2.0?

Hi everyone,
the Fable Sounds Bigband Library (VST) is a huge sound library for bigband, but with the first version there where many playback issues due to the unique articulation switching system in Broadway Big Band. Since some time there seems to be an update (V2.0), here is what Fable Sounds announce: «With version 2.0, “Notation mode” has been added to all of the Broadway Big Band instruments, to enable notation programs to communicate with Broadway Big Band and use it for playback of scores, including all included articulations and dynamics. The new Notation mode also enables integration with Cubase Expression maps. This was not previously possible due to the unique articulation switching system in Broadway Big Band. The new Notation Mode uses an alternative system of key-switching that is more in line with the way notation programs operate.»
Does anyone here uses this version in Dorico? Could you get the playback templates to work properly? I ask because the is a special offer until today to upgrade from Fable Sounds Bigband Lites: I think the full version sounds great but would be only interesting for me if it would work with dorico playback.
Looking forward to your experiences, Philip (Berlin, Germany)

I’m curious about this too. I have Broadway Lites, but never could get it to work with Dorico, and honestly don’t even have it installed right now. I haven’t tried the v2.0 notation mode yet. Even with the discount, it’s still quite expensive to upgrade to the full version, so I’d love to know if this is a workable option with Dorico.

I have Lites and updatet it to 2.2. To be honest I think it works better but I’m not really sure and in general I find it disappointing. That is for all the libraries I have. Atomic big band, Vintage big band and horns pro. lol what a waste of money. For now I prefer to work with noteperformer for the horns. It is not what you want but for some reason this works for me. I get an good enough impression to judge if it will work in real life.

If you want a decent mockup I can imagine I will use one of the libraries one day. I think the problem is that I enter the notes all stepwise. No recording so all the musical information about timing and so on are not there.

I forbid myself to buy any new horn library now.:grinning: Just bought a new drumset and that makes me really happy.

I have no Fable Sounds experience, @retephil.

However, are you by chance a NotePerformer user as well? If so…

FWIW, I also looked at dedicated jazz libraries but ultimately decided to stick with NP, using the workflow described below if I need a decent playback rendition. (OT: I did, however, splurge during their summer sale on Ample Sounds’ Upright Bass and Gibson ES 335 guitar. The bass is infinitely better than NP’s and the guitar is at least much, much better — good bang for the (limited) jazz buck!)
