For some users, when attempting to listen our projects the sound became either too low or non existing at all. This happened randomly and after looking for solutions, I have found out that more than one instruments voices are directed to flute (i.e. flute sound would control all the strings as well). Which is another problem on its own. There are no updates so I am up to date with my Dorico 4 and my friend who has the same problem is using Dorico 5.
Are you using NotePerformer? That would explain why the Flute (first instrument in the score) is the fader that has NPâs mixer assigned to. It does certainly not explain why the sound is lower than expected.
Yes, I am using NotePerformer. Is it possible to have every instruments playback controls on their original place?
(thank you for your reply
Nope. Youâll need to use the NotePerformer mixer â thatâs what opens when you press the rounded e next to the VSTi name in Play mode. There, each instrument has its own fader. NotePerformer is a special beast in that regard⌠You could use the playback template created by David Tee (on this forum), it opens one instance of NotePerformer for each instrument (one instance is made to hold 16 instruments) so that each instrument has its own fader in Dorico. Or cope with the way NotePerformer works
If you are using NotePerformerâs NPPE, then you can assign each NPPE instrument to its own fader in the Dorico mixer. They may not (probably will not) be contiguous or located where Dorico has assigned the original sounds.
Hi, so i have found this NPPE but I donât know how to assign instruments to their own fader in Dorico. Also, in NPPE, all sound banks are ânot activatedâ except Steinbergâs âIconica Sketchâ which is labeled as âfreeâ. I canât figure out where to startâŚ
Thanks Derrek. I thinik my NotePerformer is an older version; 4.5.1
At this point Iâm not sure if Dorico is the problem or NP but all of my older projects has very low volume and when I create a new projects, same goes for them too. When I open mixer, i see all instruments sound level at -6.02. I have to max them all out to be able to hear them properly. AND sadly, in one project I canât fix this problem just by maxing out the volume because I am unable to find who controlls the brass instruments. (I maxed them all out but still the brass section has less volume than the whole orchestra)
Doricoâs Preferences have a default level setting. You can then use âApply Default Output Levelâ from the Play menu.
HEY benwiggy! This actually solved the ânew project - low soundâ problem, thanks a lot!!
I will try and copy - paste that one project (which is beyond humanities capabilities to fix) into a new project and hope that it will work as it used to work Thank you again!
NotePerformer Playback Engines (NPPE) are paid-for additions to NotePerformer (except for Iconica Sketch). You would need to purchase the engine appropriate for the sound library you already have.
Have you tried Applying the Default Level ?
Yes, I did. Somehow at all levels, brass section sounded very low. But I copied and pasted that music to another project and sound is now normal again.
