I have input (4/4 time) 2 quavers, then selected dotted minim but it graphcally shows two tied crotchets and a rest?
Sorry, probably very simple answer - getting on well with Dorico but cannot fathom this!
What happens if you remove and re-enter the music?
Can you upload a screenshot and/or project so we can check your settings?
Thanks Daniel, will do tomorrow with new project.
Check in Library > Notation Options > Note Grouping - there are defaults for how to present notes that span the half-bar in time signatures like 4/4.
Aha! Yes that was it. Thank you. Attached screen shot of solution in note grouping in case helps someone else new from Finale. Also included screen shot of problem and post changing note grouping.

Would have thought default would be as the solution?
Both are conventions, and Dorico has to pick one to ship with - we picked to show splits at the half bar for full clarity in all contexts.
If you prefer the other one, save your Notation Options as your new user default for all future projects, and you won’t need to worry about it again
