Hi, before upgrading to Dorico 6.2 I was able to double-click a note during entry to enable the dotted note feature. I can no longer do this and have to select the dotted note feature from the menu. Did something change that I need to reset for 6.2?
It still works for me. I don’t think anything has changed.
Whether I use the numeric keypad or the standard keyboard, double-clicking still works fine for me too (Dorico 6.2).
So I think the problem must stem from something other than the Dorico update.
Thank you for the replies. I tried to restart Dorico and restarting my Mac. I also started with a blank/new template file. Still no love. Double-clicking a not in the toolbar no longer activates the dotted-note value.
I can confirm that using the numeric values (1-9) on the computer keyboard does work to created dotted note values; it is just that double-clicking a note value with the mouse is no longer working as expected.
Are there other types of system/setting features that could be affecting this feature? There is the possibility that I inadvertently changed something along the way, but have no idea where to check. Any suggestions appreciated as I use this feature a great deal.

The dotted note is not selected by double clicking the note in the toolbar, but by double clicking the corresponding key on your keyboard.
So double clicking the number “6” on the keyboard results in a dotted-quarter
I don’t remember this ever working like that. It works on the keyboard.
It seems you’ve edited your post after my reply.
But, I’m on a Mac, still on 6.1.10, and double clicking with the mouse doesn’t work there too.
Nor does that work on Dorico 5
And I don’t think it ever did.
Interesting that you report that you say it never worked; I remember it working before the update from 6 to 6.2. Maybe someone else will weigh in on the topic with their experience.
Not to forget the . (full stop) also works to lengthen notes by half the value. I use my own key command CRTL+. for staccato. Maybe would have been more efficient the other way around but I prefer not changing the Dorico defaults,
Thanks for pointing out that full stop is an option, did not know that but have added it to my cheat-sheet pinned next to monitor ![]()
I also programmed my MIDI keyboard so that when I press lowest “A” (bottom key on my keyboard) it activates the dotted-note function. It was very easy to configure; if anyone wants the details, please let me know. I found that MIDI shortcut really helps to avoid workflow interruptions during the creative writing process.
Full stop was the original method, double tapping was added later.
And double clicking has never been an option.
Thanks Marc for clarifying - I must have been mistaken when thinking of double-tapping a note value number on the computer vs double clicking the note value in from the Dorico menu. I realize now that I was not remembering correctly however the process of posting and getting feedback did lead me to the process of creating a MIDI shortcut which is very usefull. Thanks all!
