Dotted notes vs. tied notes

Hi,
I want to have dotted halfs instead of tied notes:

This is presetted:

Hi @Piano_Vink, the example there shows 4/4 TS. If you have 2/2 or cut common, you need to activate Use common time note grouping for cut common time signatures in Notation options/Note Grouping:

CleanShot 2025-01-04 at 17.32.48

(if you change later the TS from for example 2/2 to cut common, you may need to deactivate/apply and re-activate/apply the Notation option to refresh the desired behaviour)

Thank you very much!!!

Um Christians Beitrag zu ergänzen, weise ich darauf hin, dass diese « Notation Options » erst seit der Dorico-Version 5.1.7 gut funktionieren. Zuvor waren die Einstellungen größtenteils funktionslos.

To add to Christian’s post, I’d like to point out that these Notation options have only worked properly since version 5.1.7 of Dorico. Before that, most of the settings were inoperative.

That’s not accurate. There was a problem introduced in Dorico 5.1.50 and fixed in Dorico 5.1.70 that meant time signatures created via some methods would have their own local sets of these options, and which would then mean that changing the options via Notation Options would not apply.

That’s kind of bold to write such things, when you haven’t used Dorico 1-4…

As a day-1 user, I can assure you they used to work perfectly (but we didn’t have 2/2 treated as 4/4 in Notation options>Note grouping)

I had some problems with these setting under 5.1.5 ; corroborated by the following writing of Daniel :

Nevermind, now all is fine.

And I’ve set these options so that I can write dotted notes the way I want to. I’ve saved these settings as the default, and, you know what ? I’m happy.

That is the most doricoish thing you can do! :ok_hand:
