double note values

Just a short question: how do I double the note values of a whole piece?

I’m afraid there’s at present no quick way to do this, but it’s on our wish list (along with halving the note values as well, of course).

Has this been added in recent development? Thanks

  1. Select all
  2. Turn on insert mode
  3. Ctrl-Alt-Shift-right arrow

This was added in December 2017.

also, there is a big pile of these such manipulations in
write → edit duration.

definitely remember insert mode; otherwise, remember ctrl-Z

An excellent (and amusing) way to express it. :sunglasses:

I tried that. All that control-z did was double size not the value, and the edit duration doubled half of the notes and eliminated the rest so as to keep it all within the original four measures instead of doubling everything.

Ctrl-Z on Windows is Undo, it’s not related to doubling note values as such (but it is capable of undoing it, of course).
Doubling the note values for an entire piece/passage is a typical example of an operation that requires Insert Mode, which you can toggle with shortcut I, or the ‘I-beam’ button on the left. Insert mode will shift the following notes to the right (and create extra bars, if necessary) when you increase note values (or add notes). Without Insert Mode, the lengthened notes will only overwrite what’s coming next, which is what you saw happening.
Oh, and there’s a dedicated command for doubling note values nowadays, no need anymore to do it manually with shift-alt-arrow.

The clamp is Force Duration. This one is Insert.

But since this thread is 6 years old, let’s continue in the new thread that @Ralph_Fisher created.

Of course, thanks for correcting me! (I’m on my phone, far from Dorico).
