I have a question about this message: From 9 AM UTC on December 17, 2024, the Steinberg Download Assistant up to version 1.36.3 can no longer connect to our servers. This is due to an unfortunately unavoidable security-related certificate update.
Please start the Steinberg Download Assistant before this time to perform the automatic update to version 1.36.4
I am getting a new computer ( an Apple M4 iMac) but it will not arrive until December 23rd. If I don’t download the Assistant by December 17th will I still have access to the latest updates with Dorico? I purchased Dorico last year but when the new computer arrives I want to install Dorico as a new install on it. Will I be able to get the latest version after December 17th?
Oh thank you…A very Happy Holiday and Peaceful, musical and prosperous New Year!
Also …I’m debating on how much RAM to get with the Apple M4. Some seem to think that 16gb is enough for Dorico and Noteperformer. Would 32gb be overkill? I write mainly small to large scale orchestral works. I don’t use a DAW!
What would you recommend? Will 32 GB make a noticeable difference? I plan on installing Dorico, NotePerformer and possibly Musescore and bounce between Musescore and Dorico for my workflow.
I don’t think 32gb is overkill, with a Mac you buy a computer with a long life expectancy. There will come a time, when you will be glad you invested the extra “bucks”. Only a few days now, and you will have forgotten the extra investment, but it will make you happy in the long run.
And, btw., it is good forum etiquette to avoid bold or capital letters, when posting.
I downloaded the update to the SDA a few days ago, but it is only yesterday that I decided to update my version to 5.1.70. The SDA reported an error when I launched it. I therefore downloaded the update file from the website and was able to install it, with the programme working correctly. I always wonder about the importance of this SDA, which we are often warned must be current.
The Steinberg Update Assistant updates itself almost every time you run it anyway, it seems to be a normal procedure. This time however, you’re warned it won’t be able to do so after Dec. 17, unless you trigger the auto-update yourself by starting it before that date. The SDA itself isn’t that different I guess, it just needs a bit of extra connection security in the near future.
As mentioned, I had already updated the SDA from 1.36.3 to 1.36.4 as soon as the warning appeared at the top of the forum page. Just to see what would happen, I just ran the SDA, which caused the following to be updated: Download Assistant, Library Manager, Audio Manager (?), ASIO driver, MediaBay, eLicenser Control. The usual SDA window then appeared (but empty). I clicked on Dorico Pro 5 on the left, which caused the message “An error occurred while downloading ‘Dorico 5.1.70 Application Installer’. Please try again later.” I finally clicked inside the window, causing the list of modules to appear, but with “Failed” in red next to the first entry (Dorico 5.1.70 Application Installer) and offering to retry.
I stopped at this point, because Dorico (5.1.70.2200) already works correctly, but there is nevertheless something strange happening with the SDA.
