To authorize Steinberg Download Assistant, you must allow your browser to open Steinberg Web Launcher.
I am trying to open download assistant and everytime I hit this wall. I am using Macbook pro (OS 11.7.9) and have tried to use Chrome, Brave, Firefox and Safari.
In all cases I have no idea how to proceed.
I need this so that I can resolve an issue with Dorico 5 Pro which complains as follows when starting:
An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found.
Please run the Steinberg Download Assistant and install the following:
Welcome to the forum, Anthony. The problem here will be that for some reason, the protocol handler in your web browser that is supposed to hand you off back to SDA after you have signed in is not working. This needs to be configured in the browser. A previous thread on this forum shows how to configure it in Firefox, which you can see here:
If you ensure Firefox is configured correctly following the steps above, then set Firefox to be your default web browser, that should hopefully help.
Otherwise, you can download all the required sound content for Dorico Pro 5 from this page:
Unfortunately, I don’t think we provide a link for the Groove Agent SE content outside of SDA, but hopefully we’ll get SDA authenticating with Firefox anyway.
I have the same issue but on an HP laptop using Windows 11, using Chrome as my default browser. Why would this happen? I came over from Sibelius after bring repeatedly told how much better Dorico is but I never had these installation issues with Sibelius.
Dave, is the problem you’re experiencing that when you are bounced over to Google Chrome to sign in to your Steinberg ID account, you aren’t returned to Steinberg Download Assistant? If so, then you can check the configuration of protocol handlers in Google Chrome. I don’t use Chrome myself (I avoid using Google products wherever possible), but from some reading on the web, I believe these would be the steps you need to follow:
Open Chrome settings by navigating to chrome://settings/handlers.
Ensure the Allow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols (recommended) toggle is turned on.
Look for all protocols with steinberg and/or sda in their names (in Firefox, it appears as net-steinberg-sda, but I don’t know for sure how it will appear in Chrome), and ensure those protocols are allowed or not blocked.
