Download Manager?

How long is thing gonna be busted?

Noone knows…
What exactly happens? Have you searched the forum? There are plenty of threads with different solutions.
The easiest, quickest, and safest way: Just download your products directly from Steinberg

Thanks for your reply, but I know. I just cannot believe that after all this time they can create a new version of Nuendo, but can’t fix a Download Manager. It’s not even specialty software. Every time I purchase a product or update one I already purchased, here I am clicking through error messages and doing it manually. Why direct me to a Download Manager to install software if I have to do it manually? Let’s just save everyone a bunch of time and drive space and direct us to links to the installers

You are not the only one asking yourself these questions…

They are here, together with lots of other infos

Yes. I’m aware of the workaround. I bought a 3rd party plugin at Plugin Boutique. It came with Steinberg Backbone as a free extra. The link to install Backbone goes to the Download Manager installer, not the Backbone installer. As is tradition, at this point, when the DM failed I opened the containing folder and ran the .dmg

My question is not ā€˜is there a workaround’. My question is, how long is the Download Manager going to be broken?

The Download Mangler.

The DM is not broken. It works ok here at my place, as long as I don’t connect via my WF meshpoint but directly to the WF router.

It actually works well for me too, but I see far too many people on here having connection or download issues for it to be just user error.

Oh it’s broken here. Can’t even update Cubase. It can’t even update itself anymore

*I’ve done all the reinstalling and what not. I don’t need need to troubleshoot anymore

Everybody needs to start posting their OS and specs as well. I’m on a Mac and have had absolutely no trouble with the Download Assistant since the day it was installed, and plenty of others are obviously using it just fine too, which means ultimately its NOT broken.

The devs will need a lot more information than just ā€˜Its broken’ in order to start looking into it. Remember, if they cant reproduce it, it isn’t considered an issue and goes away, and considering the majority are using it just fine, they’re not even going to bother without some data to check against.

.dmg installers are Mac, not windows.

As a previous person mentioned, there are tons of replies to threads about this on the forum with people having issues.

But ok…
Mac Studio M1 Max
Sonoma 14.7.1

Which are the same specs as last time I posted about it in someone else’s thread months ago.

Same here on my various Windows 11 machines. DEFINITELY not broken. Works great.

A percentage of people have issues which…from my opinion…I know why.

However, I don’t get paid to be a support tech, so I get to sit out any time I feel my opinion would be rejected and abused :sunglasses:

LOL I actually do, and I have no idea why I keep doing it in my ā€œoff timeā€ haha.

It’s never worked as it should for me.
When it was first released, I was using an i7 4790 PC. I was using my phones’ hotspot for web access. No VPN. If I wasn’t getting connection errors, downloads would require 3 or more attempts. And each attempt would begin from scratch. It would get to 99%, then just do nothing. I’d wait for up to an hour before forcing it to close and start again.
Now I have a i9 12900 PC and ā€œproperā€ broadband, my PC is plugged into the router via an ethernet cable (cat6).
And I’m still encountering the same issues.
And every other downloader I’m forced to use works as expected - Arturia, IKM, EastWest, Waves, Native Instruments, etc.
I’ve even been waiting for the SDA to download, got fed waiting, and have gone to the downloads website and downloaded from there - and the SDA is still twiddling it’s thumbs.
When EVERY other downloader works except for one, it’s not ā€œuser errorā€.

Well… it must be fine. It works on some peoples computers. Therefore, we don’t have a problem.

Case closed.

I know you said you’ve already downloaded everything, but since you’re one of the folks experiencing the issue, maybe if you get a bit of time you could try installing a VPN to test? Folks have had success with Proton (free). My opinion is that it’s IPv6-related. Also, maybe before that it would be interesting to see if turning off Apple Private Relay (which will prefer IPv6) if you have that enabled?

This has been a real issue for many folks and the more info we have the better the community can assist others. Thanks!

Hmmm… Interesting. I do have private relay enabled and would be willing to disable as a test. I typically turn off IPV6 in Windows and/or on routers and/or firewalls as part of my day job… but my MAC Studio is my DAW and I haven’t made any changes to the OS; I just install audio related software and record, compose, mix, etc.

I’ll definitely give that a try after work and report back.

Indeed - but some ISPs will force CGNAT on the modem and/or try to tunnel 6to4 even if you have it disabled (or link-only) locally. This is why (I think) the VPN’s have been successful as most commercial VPN clients will disabled IPv6 completely and ā€œforceā€ IPv4 from the VPN egress.

Thanks for taking the time to do that - my Private Relay is actually active, and I don’t have issues, but my guess is that it’s actually ISP dependent.
