I’ve been trying Dorico 5Pro and intend to buy it. In addition to the trial version I also have an old version of SE on my PC. Can I/should I delete those before I download Dorico 5pro. Also when I downloaded the trial version I did not load all of the other files that were available, I don’t really need a superb play back sound. What other files should I download? Thanks, Andy
Help please, i’m confused
Especially since SE uses the same file as Pro and may have some of your preferences logged, you should download Pro from the SDA (just to be sure you have all the HSO sounds) and then afterwards deactivate SE and activate Pro in the Activation Manager.
Hi @AFT and @Derrek,
I think I need to correct Derrek here.
Member AFT already has a Dorico 5 Pro trial license and tried it out. In that case there is no need to download or install anything again. Dorico Pro and SE have only one common binary and it is the license that decides as to what it will start up to. If you have an SE license it will only be a Dorico SE, and with a Pro license it becomes a Dorico Pro. Similar with the trial license, they are licenses like the others, only time limited. When they run out, you buy the full license, activate it and continue using the installation as it is.
And AFT, if you don’t need playback, you don’t need all that additional stuff. Are you still confused now?
Thank you
Hello Ulf
Thank you for your email – I’m easily confused!
On closer inspection it would appear that although I have the SE disc I did not install it or I deleted it(strange, I bought it years ago and have a new PC since then)
So it will be a new install when I purchase Dorico5 The attached screen shows what I have since downloading the trial version. So, do I just buy and install?
Thanks for your help

You forgot the attachment (or were not allowed to?)

Hi Andy,
thanks for the screenshot.
You don’t need to install anything again, you just purchase the permanent license, register it in the Steinberg Activation Manager and then continue using the software in the same way you did before in the trial period.
The installed program stays the same, it is only the license which determines how the software will behave.
Many thanks & regards
Andy
You are more than welcome. And in case of further confusion, don’t hesitate to ask.
Hello. I have lost sound in Dorico Pro, I did have it, it was set up by Ulf. It played back fine then. (It plays ok when I am in a Sibelius file). I have down loaded the instructions written by Ulf and the first thing is that in Task manager I cannot see any sign of VST AudioEngine. On the ‘play’ screen I can see Halionsonic. Simple instructions please. Thanks
Please create a new project from piano template, enter a few arbitrary notes and then choose from the menu Help > Create Diagnostic Report and post the corresponding zip file here. Thanks
Dorico Diagnostics.zip (2.3 MB)
Thank you. I hope this attachment is ok.
Yes, thank you very much. But I see nothing in the logs and data, why that new project should not make sound. Is it really mute? No indication of level metering anywhere in the Dorico mixer?
Mixer screen shot.pdf (89.9 KB)
Hello. I far as I know nothing is muted. Does the mixer screen shot help? Thanks
Thanks, and what if you press the play button, does the green cursor move and is the metering flickering in the mixer channels?
No, it works ok, with sound on the sample piano score I sent
So if this new project works, do you then have problems with sound only on certain existing/older projects?
Yes, I have just finished a flute quartet in Dorico, The cursor in playback moves but there is no sound. I have turned the volume on the mixer to max. but still no sound. Thanks
