Drop the X icon

Hello Steinberg / Yamaha

In a time of war and a rising of far right trends on a global scale, please drop the X ( formerly known as Twitter )

This icon has become a symbol of racism and intolerance, so please take it out of any Yamaha / Steinberg products now.

Times are changing

Hi Don-Brock,

Obviously, our forum is not a platform for political matters. But we certainly can understand your request, and I can assure you that we are also watching the developments with concern and are already considering appropriate steps.

That’s exactly my point - having the X icon makes it political

Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. You probably know that some people argue that X should not be left to extremists and populists. Even on critical examination, there are arguments for and against the use of X, and we are currently weighing these up. Please give us some time.

Alright

My humble opinion?..
Banning things is a strategy of people/organisations with extreme opinions.
Don’t drag Steinberg/Yamaha into the argument. Use the excellent tools they provide us with to help us express our personal feelings.
Write and publish a song, make and download a video or a podcast.
Have the courage and make your own mark.
Just my unpolitical honest opinion.

I am not really advocating for banning, but merely skipping a highly biased brand , to avoid political agendas…

After X was bought by Elon Musk, it has evolved into a forum full of racism, extreme opinions and fact resistant argument’s , and this is the reason behind my first post.

I do have to second Oles (@Don-Brock) request. Actually, I just accidentally clicked on the X icon in the context menu that pops up when marking some text in a topic (the one that is used for quotations and such) and was a little startled that it opened a window to a place I do not want to visit. It is not about banning X from here, but I think there really could be less obtrusive ways in the forum’s UI to enable sharing on X if users do want to.

Just for clarity, @klavierpunk refers to hovering in the Share tab in the quoting toolbar.

This might be something that is configured by Discourse and not by Steinberg though.

In this case though, it would seem logical to remove the single social media icon (since there are so many out there) in that toolbar, and leaving the generic email icon.

I see, thank you for clarifying!

Another option I’d suggest would be to require a click on Share to make the different options appear instead of having them appear by a mere mouseover, if that is possible - unless this is what you meant by being configured by Discourse.

I most certainly wouldn’t miss it, if there were no general purpose social media links in that spot.

As opposed to the lunatic left that it used to be?
Just curious.

You mean, opinions different from yours?
Again, just curious.

Can you provide any proof / examples of twitter / x being "lunatic left " ?

No, what I mean is what it’s defined as, for example racism :

Happy new year

Enough said. Note that

…and the request has been answered by Steinberg staff. I’ll therefore close this for the moment
